The Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT) has opened the call for applications for the FY2026 "Supporting Pioneering Research through AI for 1,000 Discovery challenges (SPReAD)" (2nd Round).

Eligibility

  • Faculty Members: Tenured faculty members and Non-tenured (full-time) faculty members.
    Note: Part-time faculty members and researchers without an employment contract with the university are not eligible to apply.

  • Students: Ph.D. students.

How to Apply

Applications must be submitted through the Cross-Ministerial Research and Development Management System (e-Rad).

  • Faculty Members: A Researcher Number, Login ID, and password are required. If you do not have an account, please promptly submit an e-Rad registration request [keio.jp Authentication Required]to the Office of RD & Sponsored Projects, Hiyoshi Campus. If you forgot your password, please refer to page 27 onwards of the e-Rad Operation Manual (PDF).

  • Students: Applications must be submitted through your academic advisor's e-Rad account. Therefore, new individual accounts will not be issued for student applicants.

Application Schedule

  • Hiyoshi Draft Submission Deadline: Wednesday, June 17, 2026, by 5:00 PM

  • Hiyoshi Final Submission Deadline: Monday, June 22, 2026, by 5:00 PM

Important Notes

  • If you applied for the 1st round and were not selected, you are eligible to apply for this 2nd round. Please note that results for the 1st round may be announced after the Hiyoshi final submission deadline. We cannot accept any applications after the deadline under any circumstances. If your 1st-round application is selected after you have submitted your 2nd-round application, your 2nd-round application will be withdrawn.

  • The funding agency has specified strict file naming rules for the submission documents. Please check "Form 0: Application Form Checklist" and name your files accordingly.

  • The "AI Interview" that was conducted during the 1st round call for applications will not be held for this 2nd round.
